In honour of the passing of Fo Guang Shan founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, on 5 February 2023 at the age of 97, we have created this condolence page for our community to share their messages.
The Venerable Master has been a dedicated and inspirational leader in the Buddhist community. Throughout his life, he worked towards propagating Humanistic Buddhism and promoting peace, education, love and compassion across the world. His legacy continues to inspire millions to create a positive impact.
With a mind as vast and boundless as emptiness,
A body like an unbound boat that sails the ocean of Dharma.
What merit and virtue have I accomplished in this lifetime?

2023年2月5日，佛光山开山 上星下云大师，于庄严念佛声中，圆寂于佛光山传灯楼开山寮，享耆寿97岁。澳洲星云大师教育基金会特设立此网页，供大众追思缅怀。
大师一生弘扬人间佛教、建设佛光净土、利益群生。综观大师一生，秉持佛陀教法，提倡 “以文化弘扬佛法，以教育培养人才”，为教界树立典范，为世间带来光明。大师的慈心悲愿亦启发众人追随其脚步，为增进人类福祉做出贡献。
心怀度众慈悲愿，身似法海不系舟；

Dear Ven. Master Hsing Yun,
Your simple yet powerful message to “spread peace and happiness to those around us” inspired me to live by those words and ignited my desire to learn about Humanistic Buddhism.
Thank you for your unwavering efforts in propagating the Dharma. The sacrifices you have made and your selfless acts of kindness have led to tremendous causes and conditions for us to learn and appreciate the Dharma at our local temples around the world.
While it is hard to accept your passing, the light of hope that you have left us with will always be there, as we carry your legacy to spread peace and happiness to those around us.

My dearest master, I’m sorry I am no longer in fgs and did not honor my initial vows. I am devastated that you are gone and I am not able to repent to you. I pray hard I would be able to be reborn in Amitabha’s pureland and attain the bodhisattva stage to return to samsara as your monastic disciple. Thanks for being my master this life. Amituofo

今生我无缘无福报亲近大师，既然大师发愿再做和尚，愿他乘愿再来时，我能亲见并向他学习！
First of all, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Venerable Master Hsing Yun who is very compassionate and loving-kindness to others which made me feel grateful and blessed because I have the opportunity to say thank you to the founder of Fo Guang Shan.
The scholarship gives me a reason to achieve my dreams or goals in life by pursuing them and to work hard because it is a big opportunity and great honor to have this scholarship especially when it comes to financial matters. My parent’s income is not enough to support my needs and wants because of this kind of problem that is facing many people, especially students like me. So that’s why it’s a big responsibility for me to work hard and persevere in my studies. I will not waste the chance of having it because it can help me to have a better performance in academic and find a job outside. Master Hsing Yun is one of the people who made me realize that giving up is not a way to end suffering but instead be strong in all aspects of life and bring the best version of myself that I want in the future. Continuous learning and never stop dreaming because it is the key to being successful someday. I’m so happy to be part of the family and feel like I’m home because they treated me well. With that, I will not forget all the teachings of Venerable Master Hsing Yun that give me inspiration and determination to do my best in reaching my dreams in life.
