In honour of the passing of Fo Guang Shan founder, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, on 5 February 2023 at the age of 97, we have created this condolence page for our community to share their messages.
The Venerable Master has been a dedicated and inspirational leader in the Buddhist community. Throughout his life, he worked towards propagating Humanistic Buddhism and promoting peace, education, love and compassion across the world. His legacy continues to inspire millions to create a positive impact.
With a mind as vast and boundless as emptiness,
A body like an unbound boat that sails the ocean of Dharma.
What merit and virtue have I accomplished in this lifetime?

2023年2月5日，佛光山开山 上星下云大师，于庄严念佛声中，圆寂于佛光山传灯楼开山寮，享耆寿97岁。澳洲星云大师教育基金会特设立此网页，供大众追思缅怀。
大师一生弘扬人间佛教、建设佛光净土、利益群生。综观大师一生，秉持佛陀教法，提倡 “以文化弘扬佛法，以教育培养人才”，为教界树立典范，为世间带来光明。大师的慈心悲愿亦启发众人追随其脚步，为增进人类福祉做出贡献。

Dear Venerable Master Hsing Yun,
Words cannot describe the impact you have made to the sentient beings of this world. Your arrows of good deeds, good words and good thoughts have pervaded and pierced the hearts and souls of many, including myself. I am deeply grateful that I was able to live in your era. Even though i’m still young and naive, and never had the chance to meet you in person, your boundless compassion and multitude of good affinities have resonated with me profoundly.
It was 2019 in Auckland, New Zealand, when I was thoroughly touched by your story told by Venerable Miao Guang. She beautifully portrayed the boundless limits of your compassion, with you always telling yourself, “how can I help? how can I be of service?” You work tirelessly to help those around you. And even through pain and suffering, you endured, and happily put others before yourself. You are my mentor and my light; someone who pushes me to become a better person, and even though I may never be as compassionate as you, you push me to practice compassion beyond what is humanely possible.
Thank you, Venerable Master, for everything you have done for this world. You are the buddha light that guides the sentient beings of this world and shines ever so beautifully in the darkness of greed, hatred and ignorance.

我们敬爱的大师，您已经不再有病痛了，很难过也很舍不得您。
大师您真的慈悲，让全球佛光人欢欢喜喜过完年才离开我们。
大师您真的做到给人方便，给人欢喜。

I got benefitted a lot due to venerable master Hsing Yun. I went to Fo Guang Shan in Manchester (UK) and New Delhi (India). I learnt meditation and lots of classes and lot of friends and dharma teachings. Truly he touched the lives of so many people. A true Bodhisattva in action. I am forever grateful to him.
愿大师成愿再来
星云大师，感恩大师建立佛光山和成立人间佛教。您以众为我，走入人心。您心中有人。您智慧如海。您会善用识人和用人，求善求美，理事圆融。发心立愿，步步实踐，自立立人，自达达人，廣结善缘，得道多助。您善用心态转变，一切才有新机。您弘法利生，把三好，四给，五和,都教育我。让我明白集体创作，勇于承担，同体共生，隨顺，创造因缘的重要，让佛法慧命长存。星云大师，感谢您无私奉献，让佛法长存。祈愿大师乘愿再来。南无本师釋迦牟尼佛，南无本师釋迦牟尼佛，南无本师釋迦牟尼佛。

Grandmaster, your passing fill me with sadness. You are the beacon that gives me direction and hope, instead of ever drifting aimlessly. With gratitude to your great compassion and kindness, may I meet you again life after life.

我年輕時因男女情愛受到很大挫折, 看過您的書, 受到鼓勵, 佛教的溫暖滋養在我內心。這幾天得知我小時候看過電視劇改編自您著作「玉琳國師」, 我會好好閱讀, 增長智慧, 盼您未來不久再回到娑婆人間, 帶領眾弟子修行。
